ALBATROSS: ARTISTS' BIO
Both my parents were artists, my mother was a portrait artist, and her work was excellent, and my father was a traditional master carver of the Tuhoe in Aotearoa. VIEW PORTRAITS
I grew up thinking that everyone knew how to draw. I really learned a lot just from observing, listening, and copying my parents and what they did. My mom had an incredible eye for detail. As a child, she taught me how to see the natural world in fractal like depth. VIEW HYPER REALISM TATTOOS
I learnt how to bring the soul into my artwork from my father who used to bring his carvings to life. It's not something I do by default but for certain pieces either paintings or tattoos... I do.
I went on to make a living from my artwork, I made the finalists in the prestigious Doug Moran Portrait prize who shortlist only 30 of thousands of entries from around the world. Besides fine arts, I've also worked in the film industry in various roles including Production Designer on Indie and Arthouse productions.
I love tattooing, it's stress-free nothing to frame or put into temperature controlled storage, nothing that can be stolen or needs security or careful mounting ~ it just walks away with a smile.
I also love giving old tattoos a second life. Cover-ups, reworks and scar camouflage are some of my favourite pieces, because people walk out feeling renewed, and that new tattoo excitement comes flooding back, often replacing the negative emotions the old ink or scar carried. VIEW COVER-UPS
